We run structured and intensive surf coaching weeks that involve using the latest and most effective teaching tools and strategies available. We also complement these surf coaching weeks with luxurious accommodation, fantastic food and dedicated service in addition to daily lessons for those who cannot join our Surf Lodge.

SURF VIDEOGRAPHER & PHOTOGRAPHER 

 

We're on the lookout for a skilled Videographer/Photographer to join our dynamic team, presenting a unique opportunity for individuals aspiring to advance their careers in the vibrant surf industry.

The ideal candidate possesses a blend of talent, creativity, and a passion for surf-related visual art. If you're enthusiastic about surfing, this position is tailor-made for you. Your primary responsibilities will involve delivering top-notch surf photography and videography services to both our students and marketing team.

As part of your role, you'll collaborate with our surf coaching team, offering expertise in surf video coaching. Your tasks will encompass capturing and editing compelling clips of our students engaged in surfing or surf skating. Additionally, you'll be responsible for documenting memorable moments of our guests during their stay at our surf lodge. A key component of your contribution will be the regular production of recap videos on a weekly basis.

Working close to our marketing department, a thorough understanding of how a surf business operates is essential. This knowledge will enable you to effectively enhance the company's online presence and impact in the market. EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Proficient in photo and video production
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom (or equivalent)
  • Desirable: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in photography/videography
  • Basic understanding of social media and marketing
  • Possession of a full driver's license valid in Europe

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven work experience in video and photography production
  • Previous involvement in the surf industry
  • Marketing or social media experience is advantageous

  • Personal photo and video equipment with a minimum of two lenses for both short and long-distance action (600 mm or longer)
  • Water housing equipment and a drone are a plus

HOST

 

We’re looking for highly professional and motivated Hosts to work in our boutique surf lodge in the Algarve. If you’re passionate about customer service and the hospitality business, we want you. You should enjoy working in a small team with a solid work ethic and be a valuable member of our Surf Lodge.

 

As a Host, you’ll give our clients the best experience possible during their stay. This includes making sure the rooms and common areas are kept clean and tidy, the food is fantastic and adequately served, and that our guests stay super stoked throughout their holiday. 

 

Being a host is about creating a positive first impression of the lodge using their friendliness, excellent service, and high standards. In short, you should do everything possible to make our guests' experience unforgettable. A Tiny Whale host is proactive and loves working in the surf-related hospitality sector.

The Host must be able to engage in natural conversations with our guests without sounding scripted or intrusive. In addition, the Host cares for our guests by refilling beverages and performing housekeeping duties.

ASSISTANT MANAGER

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the overall management and day-to-day operations of the surf school.

  • Oversee the booking process for our surf school and coordinate with clients to provide suitable solutions.

BOOKINGS & SALES MANAGER

 

We’re looking for a highly professional and motivated bookings & sales manager to oversee the reservations and sales of our boutique surf lodge located in the Algarve, as well as provide strategic direction. If you’re passionate about surfing, the hospitality business, and customer service, we want you. You should enjoy working in a small team with a solid work ethic and be a valuable member of our company.

 

We’ve integrated together our booking and sales department recently. As a bookings and sales manager,  you’ll be responsible for managing all aspects of reservations and bookings, as well as keeping track of our sales and helping us drive revenue. The role includes planning, coordinating, and administering our reservation system and you’ll be in direct contact with our customers and potential clients. This includes maintaining records of sales, answering questions about services and products, managing a weekly guest calendar, keeping track of customer information, and ensuring that all reservations are made correctly.

 

You’ll work closely with our general manager, strategizing guest reviews, dealing with complaints, and preparing reports. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the scheduling of packages and extra activities such as sup tours, yoga sessions, or wine testing experience, arranging travel arrangements, and handling any other logistical details that need to be handled before our guests reach our lodge. As a member of a small business, it's your responsibility to check in and check out the guests; our guests arrive and leave every Saturday, and you'll be welcoming everyone weekly. In short, you should do everything in your power to make the experience of our guests unforgettable.

 

To become our bookings and sales manager, it’s important you have strong customer service skills and knowledge of the surf holiday industry. You must be able to handle last-minute changes, be flexible in your work schedule, and work well under pressure meeting deadlines. RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all clients, responding to inquiries in a prompt and professional manner, establishing relationships and communicating with clients to understand their needs and expectations, providing them with information on available services and ensuring a positive experience, providing excellent customer service
  • Manage the scheduling of all bookings, taking into account client preferences and availability of resources
  • Making sure that all travel arrangements are confirmed and that all required documentation is provided
  • Ensure that all details of the booking are confirmed and communicated in a timely manner
  • Prepare accurate and detailed reports on sales, bookings, cancellations, and other relevant data
  • Researching travel trends and booking trends to identify opportunities to increase sales of certain products or services
  • Resolving any problems that arise during the booking process, such as incorrect pricing or canceled reservations
  • Communicating with other travel agencies OTAs or transfer companies to ensure that reservations are being processed correctly
  • Manage strategic reviews and complaints; handle customer complaints in a tactful and efficient manner
  • Ensure that check-in and outs are running smooth, as well as the extra activities every week
  • Coordinating promotional activities with other departments within the company such as marketing or social media

SURF COACH (FULL TIME)


We’re not looking for an average Surf Coach.


We’re looking for surf coaches who are passionate about surf coaching. This is a unique opportunity that would suit an individual with sound experience who’s willing to boost their surf coaching techniques and skills far beyond the basics and are keen to develop a career in the surf industry.

 

We want coaches who love to teach and want to help other people develop their surf knowledge and surf skills whilst also providing an exceptional and highly professional experience for any and all guests. We’re keen to hear from individuals who are serious about offering first class surf coaching as well as those who want to improve the quality of surf holidays in the marketplace.


Our weekly surf holidays place a strong emphasis on surf coaching with a proven coaching structure that gives guests a broad understanding of the sport and provides them with the tools to become a better surfer. Your main goal here is to facilitate surf coaching for groups of 4 guests at a time. You’ll also offer surf lessons with theory sessions, run various activities such as video analysis, surf skate lessons, and lead practical exercises in the pool. Participating in social events with guests will also be within the scope of the role. Plus, as a small business, flexibility and a good work ethic are essential.

  • Level 2 Surf Coaching Certificate by the ISA, ASI or national governing body equivalent
  • RLSS, SLSGB Beach Lifeguard or Surf Coach Safety Certificate or similar

  • Legally permitted to work in Portugal 
  • Background in sport science (sport science degree desirable) or additional coaching qualifications is a plus
  • To be interested in learning our teaching methodology

LODGE MANAGER

 

We’re looking for a highly professional and motivated lodge manager to oversee the daily operations of our boutique surf lodge located in the Algarve as well as provide strategic direction. If you’re passionate about the hospitality business and customer service, we want you. You should enjoy working in a small team with a solid work ethic and be a valuable member of our company.

 

As a lodge manager, you’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering our boutique hotel services and accommodation facilities. You’ll make sure that all areas of the lodge environment run smoothly and work together, planning and supervising the activities of an extensive and diverse workforce to ensure our clients have the best experience possible during their stay.

 

Being the lodge manager is all about creating a positive first impression of the lodge using his or her high standards, attention to detail, excellent service, and friendliness. In short, you should do everything in your power to make the experience of our guests unforgettable. A Tiny Whale lodge manager is proactive and loves working in the surf-related hospitality sector.

 

This role involves all aspects of hotel operations. You will be also responsible for dealing with complaints for strategizing and preparing reports. You will be a key person of reference for employees and clients as well as external vendors.

 

The lodge manager must be able to guide the employees to work as a well-functioning team. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a team player and an effective leader, able to set examples and foster a climate of cooperation. RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Supervise work at all levels and set clear objectives
  • Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient strategy to complete daily operations and hotel services

  • Deal with maintenance issues, shortages in staff or equipment, renovations etc
  • Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers, other sport activities agencies, event planners, etc
